Customizing Your 3Play External Webpage Display for Captions

3Play offers a webpage you can share directly with your audience showing the live transcript and captions in real time as they're produced during your event. This is called second screen caption delivery, and it's a common way to present CART captions.

Prerequisites

• You must have an event scheduled for live captioning
• This service is not available to Express customers

The External Webpage URL is available on the bottom right-hand side of the Event Details page for your event. Simply copy the URL, paste it into your browser to view, and you'll be able to access your live event transcript in real time. Share the same URL to your audience to view the live transcript and captions produced in real-time. 

As with the 3Play Embed, parameters can be appended to the External Webpage URL to adjust the display of captions in the form: &param_name=param_value

The following customization parameters are available for the External Webpage. Multiple parameters from the list below can be added to the URL by appending the ampersand after the previous parameter value, e.g. &param_name1=param_value1&param_name2=param_value2

Uppercase Captions
Live event captions default to uppercase, but 3Play adds &use_uppercase=0 to our External Webpage URLs so captions display in sentence case. For uppercase captions, remove this parameter.

Caption Lines
By default, 2 lines of captions will be displayed. This parameter can be modified to any integer greater than 0, e.g. &line_count=3. Usually when using the External Webpage URL, the complete transcript is shown.

Show complete transcript
Use the &show_complete_transcript=true parameter, included by default on the provided External Webpage URL, to display the entire caption history (CART captioning). This allows your audience to access all captions from the event. If this parameter is removed, the line_count parameter can then be used.

Accessibility Menu
The Accessibility menu lets your audience customize how captions display on the External Webpage URL. They can adjust font size, font family, font and background color, and display mode (standard or full screen/presentation mode, which removes the page margins). The menu is on by default; to hide it, remove the &show_accessibility_menu=true parameter from the URL before sharing it with your audience.

Font Family

The font family may be updated to any of the families below. By default, Arial is used.
Note: The browser will replace the space(s) in the font family name, e.g. &font_family=tahoma,%20sans-serif.

Font Size

The recommended font sizes are between 14px and 50px. By default, 14 is used, e.g. &font_size=14.

Font Color

The font color may be updated to one of the options below. By default, black is used, e.g. &font_color=black. 
Hex color codes are provided for reference.

The background color may be updated to one of the options below. By default, white is used, e.g. &background_color=white.
Hex color codes are provided for reference.

Default Value: white

Good to Know:

• The External Webpage is available for all 3Play live captioned events regardless of integration, production, or delivery method.
• The URL is unique to each live captioning event scheduled in 3Play and can support up to 5k concurrent viewers of the External Webpage.
• When providing the External Webpage URL to event participants, we recommend using a URL shortener.
