FTP Upload Naming Conventions

3Play's FTP upload method provides flexible support for ordering services, using folder and file naming conventions.

General Restrictions:

All files uploaded via FTP must be smaller than 5 GB, and should ideally be smaller than 1 GB.

Folder names should contain only ASCII characters all of which must be alphanumeric, spaces, underscores (_), hyphens (-) or periods (.).  All other characters will be removed from folder names.

Manifest-Based Ordering:

For 3Play's manifest-based ordering, any folder/sub-folder hierarchy may be used for uploading media files, as long as the bottom-level folder is named hold_for_manifest.  Once the media file has been uploaded, the media file will be held until an associated ".manifest" file is received in the folder hierarchy, which will then initiate the relevant order(s).

Ordering Transcription (English and Spanish):

To order transcription service, media files must be uploaded to a folder named "english_transcription" or "spanish_transcription".   In addition, turnaround-level may be specified with one of the following sub-folders:

  • two_hour_service
  • same_day_service
  • rush_service
  • expedited_service
  • standard_service
  • extended_service

If a turnaround-level sub-folder is not present, the service will be set to Standard turnaround.

Ordering Alignment:

To order alignment service, media_files must be uploaded to a folder named "for_alignment". In addition, the alignment language may be specified with one of the following sub-folders:

  • Catalan
  • Dutch
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish

If a language sub-folder is not present, the language will be set to English.

Once the media file has been uploaded, it will be held until a transcript file is uploaded to the same location in the folder hierarchy, with the same name as the media file, but with a ".txt" extension (or, if configured, a relevant caption file extension).   This will initiate the alignment order.

All alignment services are processed with Standard turnaround, which is typically a few times the duration of the media file.

Ordering ASR:

To order ASR service,  media_files must be uploaded to a folder named "for_asr". In addition, the ASR language may be specified with one of the following sub-folders:

  • Catalan
  • Dutch
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish

If a language sub-folder is not present, the language will be set to English.

All ASR services are processed with Standard turnaround, which is typically a few times the duration of the file.

Ordering Caption Import:

To order a caption import service, the caption files must not be in one of the above special folders, but may be in any other folder hierarchy.  The caption import service is then triggered entirely by the file extension, which must be one of the support caption import files formats.  Caption imports by FTP are all assumed to be in English.   The language may be updated in the account system.  Caption imports are processed with Standard turnaround, which tends to be very fast, within minutes.
