3Play Media offers Live Auto Captioning for live events. This service uses automatic speech recognition (ASR) to caption live streaming events in real time. Contact your 3Play Media Account Manager to activate the module.
Once activated, users will need to set up an integration with a supported hosting platform and consider setup caption playback. Depending on whether the hosting platform supports native caption streaming (such as Zoom and Youtube), or not, (such as Brightcove and JW Player) users may need to embed 3Play’s Live Caption plugin embed to display captions to their audiences.
Following integration, users must schedule Live Auto Captioning in advance for a live-streaming event. Captions will display as the event is streamed in real time with a 5-6 second delay.
Please note that the quality of the captions will vary depending on the quality of the audio, the audio stream, and the duration of the delay that is set when the event is scheduled.
All Live Auto Caption users are strongly encouraged to run a test event with 3Play’s live service to ensure it works for their setup.
Below are the requirements needed to use 3Play Media's Live Auto Captioning, once the module is activated by your 3Play Media account manager.
- A live streaming encoding software that can support RTMP as an output, for example OBS (download HERE) or Streamyard. (Not needed for Zoom events)
- Hosting platform that provides RTMP streams.
See below for platform-specific live auto captioning documentation.
- A scheduled live event in the 3Play Media Live Auto Captioning module, from which one can retrieve the Live Auto Captioning plugin embed code. (Plugin optional for native caption integrations such as Zoom or Youtube)
Live Auto Captioning event scheduling defaults to US-Eastern time unless a new timezone has been configured at the user level and configured for users outside of the US-Eastern time zone.
